Day 11: Fair Haven State Park, NY to Island Pond, Vermont

This was a nice, easy day of traveling through the New York Adirondack mountains and through most of Vermont.  We are impressed with Vermont. It is very beautiful and for most of our day we were only a few miles from the Canadian border. It seemed every turn of the road would take us through another small village. One thing impressed us; every little place had a cemetary pretty much right along the road; many of these date back several hundred years. We took a lot of photos from the car as we traveled along, but not on the iPhone so they may be shared later. Vermonters like to call 'lakes' ponds. Some of these 'ponds' are quite large. We stayed at a Vermont state park on October 11th (day 11) which is Columbus Day. It is also the last day Vermont state parks are open. We shared the rather large campground with one other camper who was relieved to have company although our campsites were pretty far from each other. It was the coldest night so far; when we woke up there was frost everywhere! Truly beautiful country though, and the foliage colors are breath-taking. Today we 'lucked' out by eating breakfast at a small country 'diner' with excellent prices and even better food. Then for the evening we ate at a place called the 'Yellow Deli' and the food, while inexpensive, was great! We will rename this part of our trip the 'eating our way across New England'. Here is a picture.

Fall foliage across a 'pond'. The iPhone did not do it justice, the Nikon pictures are so much better but far too large to post right now. I'll publish the to a web site later. Takes time and it's late!
