Day 5: From Moosomin, Saskatchewan to Lake Wabigoon, Ontario

The names say it all; but we did finish the hundreds and hundreds of miles of prairies today and got into the glacially-carved lake and uplands of southern Ontario near Lake Superior. Here are some pics:

You've hear of Lake Woebegone? That's in Minnesota. This is Lake Wabigoon, and the town has been here for over a hundred years. We stopped today around six o'clock local time, after around 450 miles. We're now over 2300 miles from CV! We're staying at an RV campground---just us and one other RV; the owners will close at the end of this week and after a day 'winterizing', will depart for their  winter home in Las Vegas. Nice folks. Showed me the tent site AND told me about the trains every hour or two BEFORE I paid for the lodging! Tired enough the trains (which are not really every hour) will not be a hassle. We are about 275 miles from Thunder Bay, Ontario, where we may stay for a day or two, and two 'easy' days from Niagara Falls.

Lake Wabigoon at sunset. The iPhone did not do it justice. Also did not show the innumerable bugs which do not bite but do fly into your nose and ears. If you inhale injudiciously, they get a tour of your lungs, as well.
These are spruce trees; evergreens (they are supposed to be green). I think either they're dying, or maybe just want to be like the aspens and birches, which are turning a deep golden.

This is me; pretending to drive but actually trying to take pictures with the iPhone; I did capture the yellow trees above but this is when I quickly put my hand with iPhone done so as not to snap a shot of the RCMP car hidden around the turn to catch speeders.

Our camp this morning, about 4 degrees Celsius, with the sun rising. I broke camp. Caren sat in car warming it up and enjoying the heated seats AND with her gloves on. But she wants to tent it tonight, too, and I expect about the same temperature tomorrow morning (and the same morning routine)!

Yep. One way to make the miles go by. Knitting socks.....
