Starting day 3 in Hinton, AB, as we came through Jasper last evening we found no campgrounds (closed for the season on Oct. 1) and no room at the inn. Hinton has lots of accomodations, though, along with a Tim Hortons (food), and all of the US amenities, including Wal-Mart. Actually, the Wal-Mart advised free RV parking. We thought of throwing our tent up in that space but wasn't sure the RCMP would have a sense of humor about it....so after breakfast we'll drive back into Jasper and south to Banff. May be mixed showers today. Trying to figure out my Nikon D5000....I wonder if I can rent a teenager to explain it?
These pics were taken from my iPhone for ease of uploading them.....
Peytoe Lake, in Banff-Jasper Icefield Parkway, elevation of pic: 6800 ft.
Visitor Center, around 6800 feet; Columbia Icefield
Lots of fall color in the Canadian Rockies.
View looking south; about 50 miles north of Banff.
View looking south, a few miles closer to Banff. Hard to show the scale!
In view of the rainy forecast we pulled into a motel here in Calgary, Alberta where we are blogging, knitting (& playing word games on the iTouch) and getting ready to make the Nikon give up more of its secrets! Oh, and we're a little over 1000 miles from our starting point but we've traveled more like 1300 miles. Tomorrow we head east on the TransCanadian Highway (Highway #1).
Give that camera to me! I'll figure it out and then give it back in a few years. Good idea? ;)
